I accidentally found an old letter in my mother's chest.
In the letter, a man whose name I had never heard wrote that he was waiting for her at the train station on August 20, 1953, to “start a new life together.” The date was a month after my mother's wedding.
I did not dare to ask her about this letter for a long time.
When I read it, I was so embarrassed...because she and my father have an incredible relationship and the kind of love that everyone dreamed of. And this letter meant that my mom had some secrets.
